Kidist, left in April 2012, was suffering from severe
malnutrition when she joined Lelt's programs. The photo on the right was taken 4 months later.
Extreme poverty leads to extreme malnutrition. The effect of severe malnutrition in utero or during the first 5 years of life -- also called stunting-- effects 50% of children in Kara Kore and Hosanna, Ethiopia. This leaves children more vulnerable to disease and early death.
Lelt Foundation provides nutritional aid to all children in our programs. They receive a nutritious meal every day at our Community Center, and their parents take home food rations so they are eating at home, too. They also receive any necessary medical treatment to keep them healthy and thriving, so they can have energy and focus at school.
